When Are Wedding Invitations Mailed Out?

You’ve got mail.” This is how the wedding invitation gets to the guest. Among letters, bills and other correspondence a colored envelope winks to be opened. That final gesture of opening the envelope ends a long process of creation and planning. When are wedding invitations mailed out? It’s not just a question; it’s one of the most important questions. Knowing the right answer is the key of your guests being present. How can they come if they’re not invited in time? So, choosing the right moment will do the trick.

The perfect moment is to mail the weddings three weeks before the ceremony. Don’t postpone the sending until one week before because you risk having unpleasant surprises. The sooner you sent the invitations the sooner the guest can start planning and organizing his/ her schedule in order to make it to the wedding. You don’t want to interfere in the last moment. There is the risk that the guest has already made plans for that day. The mission is that the guest is present.

After mailing out you have to wait for confirmation. Confirming the presence is a must and a sign of respect. The soon-to-be-wed couple needs to know exactly how many people can attend the ceremony, how many from the list can make it and how many can’t. For example, if the after part is organized in a restaurant with a set menu the couple needs to know how many menus to order. There is no way to guess the number.

Wedding planners have different ideas of when the wedding invitations must be mailed out. Some say that a larger period of time is even more reassuring. In most cases the word informally spreads and everybody pretty much knows about the event. However, establishing time limits for an official notification is essential.

For example, Easy Weddings.com recommends every couple to send the invitations 6 weeks before the big day. Although it may seem a little bit too early, actually, it’s just good timing. If the invitations are send international then it’s probably a good idea to post them 7 weeks before so that they get in time. More than that, it’s better to give a heads up, an informal invite to those guests who live far away. This way they get the chance to make any necessary travel arrangements.

As you can see for some it’s two weeks, for others six weeks. The most important thing is to make sure that every guest receives his or her invitation in due time. Otherwise, you risk not having them at the ceremony. Making sure that the cards have made it to the recipient is always a good safety net. Better to check twice than not once.
