Wedding Invitation Wording In French

The traditional or formal language is demanded by the wedding invitation wording etiquette but that doesn’t change the fact that the bride and groom can opt to issue the wedding invitation using their own words.

The wording etiquette also demands for the future married couple to write the basic and necessary wedding information for their guests, and that includes the name of the wedding hosts, the name of the bride and groom and their parents, the location of the wedding with an address, directional signs or sometimes with a printed map, the date and time of the ceremony.

They can also include information about the after-party or the reception following the ceremony or the RSVP, which can be written on the wedding invitation or on a separate card. The non-traditional wording allows the future couple to be creative with words and sometimes they can even start the invitation with a favorite quote or poem.

The following advice should be taken in consideration, even if you opt for the formal or the informal wording: be careful when using addressing forms, honorifics, and in general, at the spelling mistakes; try to read several times the invitations, with fresh eyes, and be sure to ask for the help of another person to detect any errors of writing. If one pair of eyes doesn’t take notice to a small mistake, the second pair will surely spot it.

The French RSVP, the abbreviation coming from the French saying “répondez s’il vous plait”, translated as “please respond”, can look something like this:

“Nous souhaitons célébrer avec vous. Répondez s’il vous plaît avant le dix-huit Juillet.

M./Mme. ______________

____ Acceptons

____ Regrettons de ne pas pouvoir venire.”

The French wording examples can be as many as the English ones, you just have to choose the right one for your wedding invitation or attach a rough French translation of the English text. Always make decisions alongside your future lifetime partner.
