I recently discovered the Facebook network as I have a fan of HI5 for the past 5 years.  One of the things I love about Facebook are all those cool games and applications that are available from everyone that has an account. It was fun to see which superstar you are compatible with or draw a fortune cookie and see what is written on the fortune inside.

This week, I discovered a new Facebook application that is pretty different from the other for the simple fact that it lets you celebrate Christmas every day of the year. Giftreez is the name of the application that allows you to have your very own virtual Christmas tree which you can decorate with the gifts received from your friends. The obvious purpose of this application is to gather as many points as you can, upgrade the Christmas tree and be the most popular “kid” on the block.

What you have to do is to invite as many Facebook friends as you can to use this application as well. After they have chosen the shape and looks of their online Christmas tree, their Giftreez page will become accessible to you as well. When you visit your friends you have the chance to start earning those points. When you like someone’s tree, you have to vote for it and that way you will receive one point for every tree you like. When people vote back, it’s an extra 2 points for you.

Your Christmas tree can grow once you have gathered enough points to upgrade it. You need 750 to make your tree medium sized and 1500 points to make it gigantic. Another way to gain points is by putting Christmas decorations is your friend’s treez. For every decoration that you place in someone’s tree, you will receive 10 points and the person who gets the decoration gets 5 points as well (aside from a beautiful pair of golden bells). Every time you send someone a gift, you should also a write a short message. Write whatever you like, maybe a nice holiday wish or simply ask them to gift you back.

From the “my tree” tab, you can customize your tree by moving around all the decorations you received and make this tree look exactly as you wish. It’s not a fancy application and there aren’t 100 possibilities here but it is a nice, simple way of sending holiday cheers to all your Facebook friends. Why settle for an e-mail or a post on their wall when you can help them have a beautiful tree, the symbol of Christmas which they can access wherever there is an internet connection. Now you can take your beautiful and decorated tree with you anywhere and send and received gifts whether it’s Christmas, Easter, Thanks Giving of Valentine’s Day. Come to think of it, it would be a rather original way of saying “I love you” by putting a teddy bear into your girlfriend’s virtual Christmas tree in the middle of February.
