Simple Wedding Invitations

The custom of sending wedding invitations has a long lasting history, dating back several centuries ago when French and English aristocracy or more exactly their members exchanged wedding invitations among themselves just as another form of entertainment. Usually these wedding invitations were sent even to the royal families, so basically, the act of sending wedding invitations was a privilege reserved only for the nobility!

In the beginning of the twentieth century, as literacy grew, this tradition was adopted by all social ranks, and when it reached the shores of the American continent, the announcing of the wedding through an invitation card was considered as a common thing.

The classical wedding invitation was written on a small, white paper card and the writing was either by hand or printed.

The hand calligraphy invitation cards are highly appreciated even today, because they add a stylish and elegant touch to a wedding invitation. The styles of writing a text, either by hand or printed, were as many as we can find today in a Microsoft Word program.

At the beginning of the twentieth century engraving was considered to be the best option for writing an invitation, since print could always be erased getting the words messy and dirtying the card with black ink. Because of the low costs, thermography is the most popular and used form of engraving. Simple wedding cards become more beautiful because of the raised letter effect and who says that if a wedding card is not colorful or has a pattern is poorly crafted.

What is different about a wedding invitation card today is its design.

Now we talk about wedding invitations of different sizes, shapes, colors, forms, with a simple or a complex design pattern, with ribbons or flowers attached to them, wedding themed cards, and the list could go on. And since we are living in an era where ecology makes one of the world’s rules, we also have wedding cards made of ecological paper or recycled paper.

Looks are, of course, important, but let’s not forget about the wording or the information we will like to share through a wedding invitation card.

Always remember that a wedding invitation should contain the basic information about the bride and groom, like…their names, the name of their families, and the exact date and location of the wedding ceremony. There is a strong etiquette about wording a wedding invitation, but either you use a formal speech or a carefree one, you have to share the information I mentioned above.

Even if we are talking about a simple wedding invitation you can always add a personal touch by writing some favorite poetry lines or quotes.

If you are having a theme wedding party it would be good to make a suggestion about how your guests should dress. Also if you are waiting for a wedding attendance response, at the bottom of the wedding invitation you could write R.S.V.P.

The wedding invitation should be sent out with eight to six in advance, so be careful not to forget about that!

It is said that simple is better and I really do think it applies also for the wedding invitation.
