Sealed With A Kiss Wedding Invitations

You may find the history of the wedding invitations quite interesting and you can say that you can trace the roots of this custom even before the medieval ages; in these dark ages the social circumstance didn’t allow the use of invitation cards to make the wedding announcements so the inviting was issued out loud or the wedding news was spread only among family members.

Sending a wedding invitation to make an inviting to a wedding ceremony or reception is often regarded as an elegant and socially polite gesture and not only because this custom has its long history but also because people tend to maintain the traditions they find interesting.

The people were just too poor and uneducated to write or read; in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries the European noble families and royal houses began using the wedding invitations to make the wedding announcements. This activity was exclusively practiced by the wealthy because they were the only ones who could afford celebrating their marriages and weddings with opulent parties; over the years the wedding invitations became increasingly popular with people from all social ranks, especially in the beginning of the twentieth century.

The English and French aristocracies used a courier to send out the wedding invitations, sealed in their double envelopes to keep them away from any dirt or scratches. The design of the invitation cards was simple and the text was written by hand; the family crest or coat of arms was usually added on the card and on the envelopes, sealed with wax.

In the twentieth century almost all people could afford mailing out, through the newly developed postal services, the wedding invitations but they also had the alternative of making the wedding announcement in a local newspaper.

The themed wedding invitations with outrageous designs and patterns and in outstanding shapes and sizes, in various color combination, such as the “sealed with a kiss” themed invitations, became popular only in these past years because of two reasons; the themed weddings were the cheaper alternative for people who could not afford planning their wedding in foreign and exotic locations and because of the newly developed printing techniques such as thermography which allowed the mass production of beautiful, one-of-a-kind wedding invitations cards with a raised pattern and letter effect.

We live in the era of technology where information is fast spread with the help of the Internet and other social communication systems but it seems that the wedding invitations are still popular even though, at a certain level, they have been replaced with the e-mails and online wedding cards.

The “sealed with a kiss” designed wedding invitations can be purchased from the specialized wedding stores or on the internet sites the online manufactures will offer you for viewing and sale a large variety of wedding invitation designs at affordable or discounted prices.

The design of the wedding invitations may be important but the wedding invitations were used with the sole purpose of announcing a special even such as the wedding day so the basic information about the reception and ceremony should be mentioned: the names of the bride and groom, the name of the location and the address where the ceremony and/or reception will take place, the time, date and the names of the wedding hosts, usually being the ones who will issue the invitations.

On the wedding invitation card or on a separate one you can add the RSVP or request for the attendance response but you can also replace it with the expression “Regrets only” and a phone number for contact, added only if the non-attendance responses are requested.

The people who pay for the wedding act as the wedding hosts, either being the bride’s parents, the groom’s parents or both families; the couple can, of course, pay for their own wedding.

Before you put those “sealed with a kiss” wedding invitations in their double or single envelopes, make sure to read again, with fresh eyes, the information written and detect any spelling mistakes or wrong honorifics; the invitations are mailed out with minimum six weeks before the planned wedding day but you can consider in sending a “save the date” wedding card if you have planned the wedding with months in advance.
