Sample Wedding Reception Invitation Wording

It might sound quite simple in theory, but choosing the right wedding invitations for your long-awaited wedding day might prove a bit difficult, especially for the inexperienced.

There are some general things you need to know about these invitations.

The wedding invitations come in an overwhelming variety of designs, sizes, patterns, color combinations and shapes, so selecting just one design is a heavy task, unless you made up your mind and if you already know what you should be looking for.

You can always be creative and use your artistic skills to make the wedding invitations by yourself, that is, if you have the necessary time and patience. Another option I often recommend is to purchase the wedding invitations from online manufacturers because on the internet you might find some unique and very cheap wedding cards; you can also decide to personalize the cards by using different methods made available also by those manufacturers.

The invitation should contain pertinent informational details about the wedding, either if we are talking about a traditional or unconventional wedding, such as the name of the bride and the name of the groom, the names of the wedding hosts, details about the location of the ceremony and reception, the address, some directional signs and even a printed map, the date and time, the RSVP if you find it necessary to receive an attendance response. This RSVP can be written on the wedding invitation card or on a separate reply card.

There are two wording options you can use to issue the invitations: the formal wording based on a long-lasting wording etiquette or the informal language or make the invitation using your own creativity with words.

The text can either be written by hand, but this is an expensive method, engraved or printed by using thermography with its beautiful raised letter effect. This procedure is the cheapest and by using old letter fonts or some intricate calligraphy styles you can obtain some interesting and special wedding invitations.

Always make sure to read the text several times before sealing the wedding invitation in its single or double envelope, to spot any misspellings or the wrong use of honorifics and addressing forms.

This general information about the wedding invitations might be useful, but the examples make things easier to understand, so below you can find some wording samples for dinner reception.

But before that, let’s make things clear: the reception is a party held after the wedding ceremony, with cocktails, dinner and dancing, and usually, this after-party is announced in the wedding invitations. Details about this reception can be added on the wedding invitation, such as mentioning the fact that you are expecting only adult attendance or make a suggestion about how should your guests dress if you are having a themed wedding party.

“Join us in celebrating the marriage of Susan Light and Nathaniel Black, with a reception marking this event at the Brown Cloud Hotel, on Sunday, the fifth of December, at five o’clock in the evening, New   Orleans, Louisiana.”

“You are invited to attend an Adult reception to honor the newly married Susan Light and Nathaniel Black, at the Brown Cloud Hotel, on Sunday, the fifth of December, at five o’clock in the evening, New Orleans,  Louisiana.”
