Proper Wedding Reception Invitation Wording

The wedding day is a girl’s most awaited dream coming true; don’t know about the guys, but us girls get quite nervous even when thinking about this special event because we tend to channel all of our energy into the planning and organizing of a dream-like wedding ceremony and party. It will catastrophic for our real wedding not to have any resemblance with the one in our mind or dreams.

A reception is a party held after the wedding ceremony, with cocktails, dinner and dancing, and usually, this after-party is announced in the wedding invitations.

But before we give some examples for a proper wording for a wedding reception, there are some things you need to know about the wedding invitations and the information they should contain.

The wedding invitations come in an overwhelming variety of designs, color combinations, sizes and shapes, so when the right time comes you might find it quite difficult to choose just one design, unless you know perfectly just what you like and need.

You can always be creative and make your own wedding invitation cards, but think about the time you need for such a job and if you have the necessary patience; another option, which I recommend, is to purchase the wedding invitations from online manufacturers. On the internet you might find some cheap and unique invitations, already available for sale, or you can order some personalized wedding cards.

The thing is that they have to match with or give a hint about the theme of the wedding, either being a traditional or an exotic one. And since the main purpose of the wedding invitations is to announce you wedding day, let us not forget about what is really important about them: the wedding information.

The text can either be written by hand, but this is a costly procedure, printed or engraved by using thermography with its raised letter effect; the last method is the cheapest and by using an intricate calligraphy styles or old letter fonts, you might obtain some special and interesting wedding invitations. Usually the color of the ink is contrasting with the predominant color of the card.

Since we mentioned above about the wedding information, you might as well know that there are two wording options used in issuing the wedding invitation: by using the informal language or simply put, to issue an invitation using your own words, and the formal wording, based on a long-lasting wording etiquette.

The invitation should contain pertinent information about the wedding, either if we are talking about the non-traditional or formal language: the name of the bride and the name of the groom, the names of the wedding hosts could be mentioned or not but you have to know that this suggestion should be taken in consideration if you opt for the traditional wording.

The rest of the information is about the location of the wedding ceremony, sometimes you can add a printed map or some directional signs, the date and the time; the RSVP can be written at the bottom of the wedding invitation in the form of a phone number or on a separate card.

Makes sure to always read several times, with fresh eyes, the written information on the wedding invitations to detect any spelling mistakes or the use of wrong addressing forms or honorifics that may lead to some future embarrassments with your invited guests. Seal the invitations in their double or single envelopes and try to send to with minimum six to ten weeks in advance, before the actual wedding day.

And since we talked about the basic information about the wedding, let us not forget about the information about the reception or after-party, which can be added on the wedding invitation card or on a separate card; you must mention the name of the location, the address, the time and sometimes the date if the reception is not organized immediately after the ceremony, and always make a suggestion about how should your guests dress if you are having a themed reception or other details, such as mentioning the fact that you are expecting only adult attendance.

“The pleasure of your company is requested at the Reception immediately following the ceremony, at the Ether Hotel, Baton Rouge,  Louisiana.

“Cocktails served at 6:30 p.m., dinner served at 7:30 p.m., dancing until midnight. The Ether Hotel, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

“Reception and Dinner immediately following ceremony, the Ether Hotel, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.”

“Adult reception following the ceremony at the Ether Hotel, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.”
