Navy Wedding Invitations

My friend plans to have a nautical theme for the wedding celebration, first of all because her fiancé works as captain on board of a cruise ship and second because his company offered to help him with the planning of his happy event allowing him to have the ship rented as the place of his wedding ceremony and reception. I am very thrilled to hear that and tell my friend that I can hardly wait for the wedding card to arrive. She says that it is exactly the reason she has thought of calling me: to help her with these wedding invitations.

She knows that I work as a graphic designer for children's comic books, and because of this I could be the one to assist her at least with some ideas in regard to the design and format of her cards. It is something new to me I have to admit, but I simply can not say NO for an answer. Therefore the next day I opened my PC and started looking for something to get me an idea, or at least a starting point for the creation of these special invitations. I was somehow amazed at the variety of navy wedding invitations available online, but as much as I needed to find some kind of inspiring source nothing showed up.

I was really impressed of the beautifully decorated wedding invitations some of them with blue nay silk ribbons, others with golden starfish to adorn the knot of a satin ribbon in navy color tying the two pages of a blue colored wedding card. Another image represented a wedding guest book having the covers colored also in navy and a white satin ribbon crossing the front cover and having in the middle a silver-plated anchor charm, the nautical symbol of the sailors.

My friend needed me to come with an idea and I knew that the clock was ticking since these cards were meant to send the news about their upcoming event and according to their RSVPs my friend was indicated the number of the wedding attendees. Without the exact number of the guests who were planning to participate to her special day, she wouldn't know how to go further with the number of seats, amount of wedding flowers and so on.

As the clock was ticking, whether I liked it or not, I saw myself forced to figure out something and as such I browsed the web site and look for the ship that was meant to host the celebration of my friend's wedding. After I found it I came up with the idea to have it copied and pasted on the front page of her navy wedding invitation and the interior to display the details of the wedding written in white letters. The RSVP cards could be inserted in the envelope in the format of an anchor cut out from card stock and tied with a silver string to one of the corners of the pictured ship.

The guests could easily detach the anchored RSVP card from there and mention their reply on its back side. Sketching first this idea of mine on a word document I e-mailed further to my friend and asked for her opinion. She was more than thankful calling me at the same time her life rescuer, and in this way I fulfilled my task allowing my friend to go on in time with the dispatching of her wedding invitations.
