How To Word Wedding Invitations
Traditional weddings require a formal text. Invitation to the ceremony in a house of worship will be written as follows: “Mr. and Mrs. John Michael Connor request the honour and favour (with “u” spelling) of your presence”. Punctuation isn’t needed. It is used only for abbreviations like “Mr.” and “Mrs.” or in phrases that appear in the same lines and have to be separated (for instance, the date).

Date numbers are spelled out (“the first of May”). Only long numbers are allowed to be written in numerals. The expressions as “half past five” or “five-thirty” will be replaced by the formal “half after five o’clock”.
If you are organizing a less formal event then, of course, less conventionality is required. You can address your guests in the following manner: “The honor of your pleasant company is requested at the marriage of…” or the more simpler and informal “Please be so kind and join us as we celebrate the marriage of…”
In the case of a destination wedding you have to send sooner the invitations, with about four months before the event. The guests need time to prepare for the big adventure. You have to give them specific information about the location. Maybe it will be appropriate to include in a brochure, with the most important hotels in the area. Response cars are also needed in this case. Indicate the date by which you expect back the answers.
The guests have to be informed about who is hosting the event. Regarding the couple, bride’s name should be mentioned first. Date and time have to be clearly specified.
When learning how to word wedding invitations you should know that are some certain rules to be respected when you address the people you invite. If they have professional title, as lawyer, doctor or engineer, use them and forget about Mr. and Mrs. Spell their full names in the cards. Do not capitalize the first letters of the lines, unless the word is a proper noun.
You have to mention that you are having an “Adult Reception” if you don’t want to invite children. The guests should also receive some information about the way to dress. Use symbols in this case, like a little black tie, that would be the sign of a formal event.
