Fleur De Lis Wedding Invitations

The fleur-de-lis is a stylized iris or lily flower used as a symbol or decorative art design in heraldry often having a political or dynastic significance. The name comes from the French term for “lily flower” and usually the fleur-de-lis design is the stylized version of the flower specie whose scientific name is Iris pseudacorus.

This symbol is often seen on countless flags and coats of arms, especially European. It was originally associated with the French monarchy or the House of Bourbon, sometimes appearing in the coats of arms of the Spanish royal family or the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. In North America, the fleur de lis is associated with the areas formerly belonging to the French such as Louisiana or Quebec; it is also the emblem of the city of Florence and that of Schlieren, a Swiss municipality. As a religious symbol, in the first stage the fleur de lis was associated with Jesus, but it soon became a Marian symbol because of the Song of Solomon: one particular verse “lilium inter spinas” translated as “lily among thorns” was understood as a reference to Mary. It can also represent the Holy Trinity or the iconographic attributes of the archangel Gabriel. This long lasting symbol can be used on the wedding invitations with great success because of its important significance.

The text on the wedding invitation could be written by hand, giving it a classic or traditional appearance, but one can also opt for thermography, a printing procedure with a raised letter effect or the engraving. I suggest using a medieval calligraphy style to match with the design of the invitation card and I would also like to share my opinion about using the hand written wedding invitation because it gives an elegant, stylish and classy characteristic to the invitation. It is a procedure a bit expensive but if the wedding budget allows some extra expenses for the wedding invitations than I strongly recommend this writing method. The wording etiquette should be considered as important because the recommended tips of how to politely behave into the society gatherings are highly appreciated. The wedding invitation should contain just the necessary information about the wedding ceremony but there are no rules to stop you from adding some other details you consider as important for your guests, such as how they should dress if you are having a certain wedding theme, if they should be prepared for an after-party or reception immediately following the religious ceremony and the list could go on.

The wedding is usually planned by the bride’s parents, being also the hosts and their names should be mentioned on the wedding invitations, the name of the bride is written first and only after that, the name of the groom. If you don’t want to mention and underline the names of the hosts, you could simply choose to write the name of the bride and groom’s parents; on the wedding invitation you must add the name of the wedding location, some directional signs if the place is unknown and a printed map, the exact time and date. The RSVP is written at the bottom of the wedding invitation if you are waiting for an immediate attendance response and it could usually be a phone number. You can also write the RSVPs on an individual card and wait for your guests to mail them back to you with an answer. Another option would be to use a ‘save the date’ wedding card, which acts as a reminder and does not replace the formal wedding invitations; in normal circumstances the wedding invitations should be send out with minimum six to eight weeks in advance. It usually depends on how much time you have on your hands to make the proper and final wedding arrangements based of the attendance answers you receive. It is very important not to overcrowd the wedding location and make you guests feel uncomfortable. The wedding day should be important not just for you and your partner but also for your guests so a perfect wedding ceremony, with perfect wedding invitations to announce it, is a must. The fleur de lis pattern for the invitations give a royal feeling to the upcoming wedding ceremony so consider this suggestion as an alternative option.
