Black And Green Wedding Invitations
Auguste Renoir once said: “I’ve been forty years discovering that the queen of all the colors is black” while a Chinese proverb says that: “If I keep a green bough in my heart, then the singing bird will come”.
As you can probably figure it out, colors have a strong visual, psychological and emotional impact on humans and each one gives a personal and different meaning to them. It is usually less stressful to take fast decisions if you have in front of you all available options.
I personally think that weddings are all about small details such as choosing the perfect wedding gown or wedding invitations. For the latter, in case you don’t have any idea about what color combination, shape, size, pattern or design to choose, I recommend selecting a simple, elegant and white invitation or a colorful invitation card, with abstract and minimal patterns.
Both colors, black and green, have powerful significances and symbolism.
Green is often associated with ecology and peace because it is the predominant color in nature having a soothing effect, helping with the physical and mental relaxation, providing a sense of harmony, renewal and regeneration, alleviating anxiety and depression while black is used as the mourning color in western culture, often being associated with bad omens and Death, bereavement, anarchy, individuality and evil, darkness, silence, chaos and feelings of fear, emptiness and overwhelming void or absence. On the other hand, black can have a relaxing effect, similar with green and in many cases, the person who wears black feels protected and hidden from the staring eyes and provides a sense of tranquil emptiness.

In Chinese culture, certain colors represent the four seasons, the primary elements or directions and black is associated this with north, water and winter while in Hinduism, green is the color of the Anahata or the Heart Chakra being linked to the circulatory system, heart, chest area and lungs, allowing the person to love and feel compassion if the chakra is opened. The symbolic association doesn’t stop here and if you would like to find out more about it just study about each culture.

As I’ve stated above, the design of the invitation card can be as unique and one-of-a-kind as you like it; the wording will basically remain the same and you have two options: to respect the formal wording for the wedding invitations or to use a personal or an unconventional addressing language.
The text can either be written by hand using a stylized calligraphy, printed or engraved.

Thermography is the cheapest and fastest method of writing the wedding invitation text, and although it is not as elegant and stylish as the hand written text, its raised letter effect is its most beautiful and interesting feature. The calligraphy style can be chosen to match with the wedding invitation design or the wording style and the color of the ink can be chosen to create an interesting and contrasting effect with the predominant color of the wedding card.
The design of the wedding invitation is important but do not forget that the information it contains is much more important so you have to be very careful when reading again the wording and the addressing so that it won’t have any misspellings; depending on that information you will have to use a certain wording style. The name of the bride and the name of the groom must be mentioned in the wedding text, sometimes the wedding invitation begin with their names; the couple can opt to mention first the names of the wedding hosts, usually being the bride’s parents, but not necessarily. The invitation should also contain the name of the wedding location, the date and time; add a printed map and directional signs if you find them necessary for your guests.
In some cases, the couple chooses to write the RSVP on the wedding invitation in the form of a phone number. Wedding invitations are usually mailed out with minimum six to eight weeks in advance, by using the classical double envelope or a single one, matching with the colors and the design of the wedding invitations.
I seriously believe that the black, even though its black, and green wedding invitations would make the perfect choice to use for your wedding, and not only because put next to each other they create a contrasting visual effect but also because of their symbolism and significance.
